Smooth online transfer to India

I used Western Union last week to send money to my family in India. I did the transfer online through their website, which was pretty straightforward. The process for setting up the account was a bit long with all the verification steps, but I understand why it's needed. I picked the 'Receiver Direct to Bank' option and the funds arrived in their account within 2 days, which was good. The exchange rate seemed fair compared to what I've seen elsewhere. I also used the 'Track a Transfer' feature and it updated pretty quickly. I had a quick question about transfer limits, so I called customer service, and the representative was helpful and answered all my questions clearly. Overall, a reliable service for international transfers.

Good value for first time

This was my first time using Western Union. I needed to send money to Nigeria and was looking for the cheapest way. I got a $0 fee on my first transfer, which was a nice saving. The 'Quick Cash' option seemed best for my receiver. The exchange rate was decent too, made the overall cost feel very reasonable. For a first-timer, it felt like good value for the money I spent.

Quick cash pickup worked

Sent money to Mexico for cash pickup. It worked. Receiver got it fast, same day. Fees were okay. No issues.

Consistent service for years

I've been using Western Union for years now, mostly for sending money to family overseas. This last transfer was for a 'Mobile Wallet Transfer' to the Philippines. It was just as reliable as all my previous 'Bank Account Transfer' experiences. The app is usually quite stable, and the process was quick, just like before. I always check the exchange rates, and they're consistently competitive. It's why I keep coming back instead of trying other services. They've always delivered on time for me, which is crucial.

Wondering about transfer times to the Philippines. Need to get some money there pretty quick, like by tomorrow. Is that even possible?

M Mark 2 months ago
Depends how you send it and how they pick it up. If it's cash pick-up, it can be really fast, like minutes sometimes. Bank transfers take longer though.

For sure, direct to bank takes a day or two. But if it's cash at an agent, often it's almost instant. Just gotta make sure the agent location is open and has cash.

How do Western Union exchange rates compare to Wise? Wise usually has pretty good rates, don't want to get ripped off.

M Marcus Ito 2 months ago
Honestly, Wise usually has better rates for a lot of currencies. WU can sometimes be okay, but you gotta compare for your specific transfer.

WU's rates fluctuate a lot. For bigger amounts, the difference can add up. Always check both before you commit, that's what I do.

I'm a student, are there any discounts for students or anything like that? Every bit helps.

C Carly G. 2 months ago
I haven't seen a specific student discount mentioned recently. They mostly do the first transfer free or My WU rewards stuff.

Not that I'm aware of for just being a student. Your best bet is to sign up for My WU if you're gonna use it often, you get points that way.

Can I use a credit card to send money, or is it only bank account stuff? My bank account is a bit low right now.

L Laura 2 months ago
Yep, you can use a credit card. Just know there might be a cash advance fee from your card issuer, so watch out for that.

You can, but sometimes the fees are higher with a credit card compared to a debit card or bank transfer. Just a heads up!

Hey, thinking of sending money to my family in Mexico, does WU still do that first transfer free thing?

T Tara C. 1 month ago
Yeah, I just used it last month. They had a promo for $0 fee on my first one, was pretty sweet.

They usually do, especially if you're a new user online. Check their site, it should pop up or be in a banner somewhere.
